Teacher Background
This unit investigates the ways in which science and religion are often perceived to be in conflict.
It takes up the challenge of comparing them and so encourages pupils to think about the nature of truth.
Pupils will be asked to consider the idea that it’s possible for two claims to be different but both true.

This resource offers a learning journey to take pupils from Year 7 to 9. The resources for Year 7 and Year 8 are closely linked and address the following key ideas:
Key Ideas
- Scientific and religious enquiry are usually focussed on different kinds of questions.[Yr7]
- Scientific enquiry is a robust form of enquiry but it cannot tackle every kind of question. [Yr7]
- Religious texts are written to present religious ideas not as alternatives to scientific descriptions
